1. Hold a "Hunger Banquet." Raise funds and awareness about hunger at your local church, community group, scouting troop, etc. through this powerful exercise. CLICK HERE for more information.

2. Watch "A Place at the Table." Learn more about Food Insecurity in the United States through this excellent documentary that looks at the issue on both a personal and policy level. CLICK HERE for more information.

3. Contact your local, state and federal elected officials and tell them fighting childhood hunger is important to you and you would like to see them vote in favor of programs to solve this crisis.

4. Get informed. Food insecurity is not only about not getting enough food, it's also about not getting the right kinds of food. Go to the United States Department of Agriculture's "Choose My Plate" website to learn more about making healthy food choices for you and your children. 

5. Have a party! Planning a birthday or other type of party for yourself or your child? Ask for donations to Food for Thought instead of presents. CLICK HERE to see our menu for specific items we need.

6. "Like" Food for Thought on Facebook. Stay in the loop on the work we are doing to feed Rowan County's hungriest school children.

7. Get a group of friends, classmates, or neighbors to pack bags at one of our weekly packing parties. Organize a competition between classes, schools, sports teams, or churches to see who can pack bags the fastest!

8. Read a book. A greater understanding of the underlying causes and systems of hunger and poverty in America will better equip you to make a difference. Check out "Nickel and Dimed" by Barbara Ehrenreich; "Amazing Grace" by Jonathan Kozol; or "The American Way of Eating" by Tracie McMillan.

9. Spread the Word! Talk to a friend or family member about food insecurity and the work of Food for Thought in your community.
